Auxiliary

The world’s largest women’s patriotic service organization

Founded in 1919 along with the American Legion, the American Legion Auxiliary is the world’s largest women’s patriotic service organization with over 750,000 members in over 8,600 communities (units) worldwide. Auxiliary members and volunteers serve veterans, military, and their families through various programs including Girl’s State, the Poppy program, and the the Veteran Affairs and Rehabilitation program.

Today, the American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) volunteer services generate nearly $2 billion annually, through volunteering more than 10 million hours in mission service in the past year alone, assisting almost 900,000 active-duty military families in the process.

Youth programs such as Girls State and Girls Nation are held in schools which offer scholarships for young women who demonstrate knowledge of the ideals and principles of American government and patriotism, with approximately 16,000 participants every year engaging with the public and educating others on the principles of our country.
